Re: latest trailer debacle...and this happened

The Loadstar donuts are actually pretty good tires. What I have noticed is many dealers love to put the cheapest/smallest trailer they can under a pontoon to keep the package price down. I see a lot of Tritoons being pulled on a pair of 2000# axles with 10” donuts and no brakes.

Re: Should I repower ???

I honestly haven't heard of the "exhaust" issue on the Merc 150's. I know mercury has a few different "barrel" diameters for the prop in which the smaller ones are designed to bypass some exhaust for hole shots on lighter boats. Are you running one of the larger diameter Enertia props? I had to try ...

Re: What to use of outboard quits

I have 2 backups + paddle. 55# 12v trolling motor and a 9.9 kicker WITH separate 3 gallon tank. The 9.9 will push my tritoon around 7mph and burns less than 1 gallon a hour doing so. Even tried our 2.5hp and it pushed the pontoon over 3mph and weighs under 30#. Lots of options, an electric trolling ...

Re: 2013 Yamaha F115 to 2018 Evinrude 150 G1

The Suzuki 115/140 had the largest displacement block until the new Mercury 115 came out a few years ago. The old Mercury/Yamaha 1.7l 115’s were pretty anemic. Mine is a trailer queen and I have a good Suzuki dealer near by and one on the lake I frequent so that’s the way I went. Never needed them b...

Re: DC Chargers?

I thought we were referring to “marine” deep cycle also, hence my comments on them not taking a high rate of charge. To most of the people on this forum a “deep cycle” is an average lead acid battery you use for a trolling motor or camper. I’ve worked with HD deep cycles on forklifts and heavy equip...

Re: DC Chargers?

Also be mindful, due to the way they are built, deep cycle batteries won’t take more than a 10amp charge while being charged with a 14.4v alternator source. Trying to charge them faster with a higher voltage source really shortens the life cycle. Just some testing with the 30 amp mode on my big gara...

Re: 2013 Yamaha F115 to 2018 Evinrude 150 G1

40-41 mph solo is what I’d expect and 34-35 with 4 people pulling a skier. Going to a 200 on the same engine block will only bump those up another 3-4mph, and not give any more “pop” for pulling skiers up. The G1 would definitely pop up a skier better than a Yamaha 150 but I would think swapping con...

Re: Yamaha 225 vs 250-Sun Tracker vs Sun Catcher

5k is probably right on if he is talking total package. 23’ Tritoon, V6 4 stroke, full tank of gas + coolers, 800-1000# trailer will be right around 5000#. My home build 20’ tritoon, 140 Suzuki, loaded for the lake and sitting on the trailer was 3700# on a certified scale. I weighed the package to m...

Re: Trolling motor

I wish they would make a larger 12v, I stick with the 55# so I can charge the batteries with the outboard. It’s a pain to charge 24v setups when you are spending a week camping in a remote area. 55# keeps maintains direction on windy days but is running 10 of 10 to do it!

Re: How fast do you drive with your Bimini top

37-38mph into a strong headwind, no issues and I have the straps up front, 12' 4 bow top. A lot has to do with the way its mounted, the front on mine is slightly lower than the rear so it doesn't act like a parachute.

Re: Welding tie down loops to pontoons

What’s the intended use? Mine has aluminum cleats welded on the tips and Only use them for trailer tie down, and use the deck cleats for the anchor. If your looking for hooking up trailer straps I’d just get a set of stainless u bolts and bolt them on the inside of the front risers. The U bolts like...

Re: Update my existing boat or buy new/newer used?

If I was stuck on a lake with a 40hp restriction I'd just rebuild what I had! The plus side is you can do it in stages so you don't need to lay down the cash all at once. Is 40hp the actual restriction? If so that's the highest I've ever seen! most around here are 10hp (I fish those with the prop re...

Re: Harmon Hook4 Performance Question

Seems normal for just about any finder on a pontoon. It’s VERY hard to find a decent setting on the back of a round hull with a rounded transition and probably a keel guard to boot churning up air bubbles in front of the transducer. Even my big hummingbird sidescan HD transducer has trouble holding ...

Re: Electric Winch on trailer

Guess I shouldn't travel to the north for boating, never heard the term "powerloading" we just call it driving onto the trailer, been the only way I've ever loaded my boats in 40 years of boating. Not sure how my prop wash can damage concrete, and my "prop wash" is traveling aft of the ramp area wh...

Re: Any body bought one of the Bimini tops off Ebay.

I bought the heavy duty one from Pontoonstuff many years ago, with Sunbrella fabric. GREAT top for the price and has taken quite a bit of abuse (sitting open at the dock for months on end) and has barely faded in over 5 years.
