Removing rail trim piece

#1 Post by Lee » Wed Oct 01, 2014 12:40 pm

I am in the process of a restore on a 99 Sun Tracker and would like some advice on the best way to remove the outer aluminum trim piece the carpet goes under. It is welded on all edges and has 6 rivets holding it on at the transom. Is there enough give to it once I drill the rivets out to remove it, or do I need to cut a weld? Thanks for the information I have received already from this site. You all have inspired me to start this rebuild and I am having a great time, and looking forward to getting it out on the water!

Sorry. I posted this in the wrong place. I was able to get the trim off.

I had no problem with where you posted it. I just couldn't figure a way to do it with out cutting the trim or welds.
How did you get it done?
