New 'tooner from AZ

#1 Post by MacToon » Wed May 02, 2012 11:57 pm

Hi all,

just joined Pontoonforums after lurking and doing a lot of reading for the past couple weeks. A lot of the information and discussions here have been very helpful as we did our boat shopping. I just bought my first pontoon boat yesterday - a 2012 Xcursion X-25RL with the X3 package (straked triple toons, underskinned, ski tow bar, etc.) powered by a 225 hp Yamaha Vmax. The wife and I do most of our boating on Lake Havasu/Colorado River, with occasional trips to other desert lakes (Powell, Mohave, Mead). I moved up to the 'toon from a 19' open bow and although the 'toon feels like a school bus by comparison, we love the much smoother ride, comfort and all the extra room on board! We're looking forward to years of good times on the water with her.

Welcome to the best pontoon boat forum ever. That sounds like a nice boat but until we see pictures we can't be sure.

Welcome to the forum. It'll be interesting to see how one of the high horsepower toons performs. I am really impressed with the SHO engines--top of the line in technology.

Thanks for the welcome and yes, I should have known better than to not include pics! Here's a couple I snapped when we brought her home, I'll add more after we take her on the maiden voyage this weekend. Bamaman - all I can tell you so far is that I briefly (very briefly!) opened her up during our check ride and was able to get 37 mph on a windy, choppy lake with 4 adults aboard and about a half-tank of gas.

After years of I/Os and wakeboard boats, I bought a tri-toon last year too. The difference in rough water is nothing short of amazing. You will really appreciate that difference on Havasu. And I see you also have a nice storage unit to keep it in. I bought a 22x45 unit this winter for both boats and it sure has been nice to have a place to work on them and keep them out of the sun. The AZ sun is just so hard on boats- even with a cover. And I love the rear layout of your boat!

Paublo, the difference in the ride on rough water is definitely amazing. The wind whipped up on the lake this afternoon to where it was blowing whitecaps - a situation where our 19' bowrider would pound us to death, but the 'toon cut right through it and gave a nice, enjoyable ride. And yep, a storage unit is pretty much a 'must-have' in AZ, as you already know - I've seen too many friends' boats get trashed in no time from being stored outdoors in the Arizona sun! The wife absolutely loves the rear loungers and I can already see that I'm going to have to invest some time into teaching her how to drive the boat so I can spend some time relaxing back there myself! :)

Welcome Mac. I am in Kingman and just like you I have been lurking for almost a year. I am still looking but am going to look at a 2006 crestliner witth a 150 hp O/B in LHC.
It has a pretty trashed interior but I like the big engine and the price. I figure $3500 will get it into shape.
I want to put it on the water for my Coast Guard Aux flotilla.
