...to any boat or motor too heavy to lift :)

Yep--I have a lot to learn about boating in general, and about pontoons specifically. I'm buying a vacation cottage & it comes with a (guessing) ~1975 Crest with a (not sure) Johnson 40hp. It's in the water & it floats. That's about all I know so far :) This place is 4 hours drive from home so don't ask just yet about any markings or measurements! I'm making the toon out to be a 75-ish Crest just based on Google photos. It's got very dated-looking orange panels that I will remove & paint as a first priority just so it's easier on the eyes. The console is rotting but still mostly attached and functional. Deck feels solid but I'll replace it when I replace the carpet, if needed. No "furniture" yet but I have some ideas of how I want this old timer to look when finished.

Looking forward to the experience and I hope to be able to contribute something useful in the future.

That's proof that these things last just about forever.

Think how that pontoon would have lasted if it'd been kept out of the water and weather.

Welcome to the Pontoon Boat Forum.

OK it's a '79 Crest 21-foot and the owner calls it the FrankenBoat because of how many times it's been rebuilt or had parts swapped in from other boats.

So about one of those mods I have a question: The throttle control is on a different side of the helm than original, which means its operation is reverse of normal. I've never seen one (yet) but can the cable or lever be switched or the attachment to the OB changed to make it push where it now pulls?

What is your motor and can you show pictures? The older Yamahas had both a push and a separate pull control. I once had a center console with a Johnson motor that had a left hand control mounted on the right upside down and the cable was on top instead of the bottom.
