I need some advice

#1 Post by Tellico » Wed Feb 11, 2015 7:31 pm

I am new to the forum and need some advice. I just sold my Sea Ray deck boat and I am about to buy a new 23 ft. Silver Wave tritoon pontoon with a 140 HP Suzuki. I know very little about this manufacture or the Suzuki other than from what I have read on the internet. I welcome all comments from any experience pontooner.

Welcome to the forum! Suzuki makes a good motor, I used to have a 70 4 stroke and it was very reliable which is my biggest concern.

Silverwave pontoons are from the maker of Blue Wave boats. Maybe someone from Oklahoma can chime in and critic them.

The Blue wave boats are popular down here on the Gulf coast.

The Suzuki is a fine motor for use on a pontoon boat, and the 140 hp has a reputation for being very trouble free.

But I would suggest you price the 150 hp motor while you're at it. 10 hp doesn't seem like much, but it's a whole lot more motor than the 140 hp. They are geared to push a very large diameter propeller with more pitch than normal pontoon boats use. Make sure your boat runs the posted red line trimmed out, as new propellers are not easy to find for Suzuki's. You want it running to its 100% potential.

Suzuki (and Honda) don't have a large dealer base nationwide, and it's important that you buy from a dealer close to where your boat is being stored.

We have a Silverwave, new last summer really like it. 250 island RL. visited the factory last summer walked in asked for tour. They treated us great! No complaints so far.

Thanks to all for your reply and advice. It is a little chilly here in East Tennessee right now so I won't be doing much on the lake until it warms up. Once I get some experience with my new pontoon I will let you know how it is going. Thanks again!
