Motor controls

Hello all,
We have an 18 foot Suntracker with a 9.9 Bigfoot. The 9.9 will push us around Yough Lake in southwest Pennsyltucky all weekend on 3 gallons of gas but is so slow that swimmers pass us by. (slight exaggeration). Anyway, a friend has a larger Merc engine that was original on his pontoon that he wants to sell since he bought a smaller one.
Question: will my controls hook up to his engine since it is also a Merc? All I can find on line are sites telling about hooking up different engines with adapters from one make to another, no one says if the controls from two Merc engines are compatible.

Welcome aboard, that 9.9 would barely hit trolling speed!! Sorry can't help you with the control question.
