Hello,
I am owner/operator of a small shop servicing the pontoon and dock boats on the five electric-only lakes in Reston, VA. It started out as a hobby and by being a helpful neighbor to people who couldn't get their boats to cruise. I decided to set up a business selling my service which is mostly electrical system work. I did a total renovation of a pontoon boat in June, pics of which I'll post below. It's been fun and a great way to get to know people in the community, especially on Lake Thoreau where I moor my own pontoon boat (18' Sweetwater). I made a lot of acquaintances I never would have.
We mostly have Ray Electric and Minn Kota setups on our lakes. Lots of people just use trolling motors and they tend to burn out pretty regularly. I became a Torqeedo dealer which has been great for several people.
My approach is to use the absolute best materials that I can, and pay great attention to detail. You'd be surprised at the poor quality of materials and configuration I often find. Our community is unique and there hasn't been a good resource for this kind of work. I'm filling a niche that has been unfilled for a long time.
I hope to share and absorb a lot of knowledge on this board!
I like to take a lot of pictures so here's my Instagram:
