New owner with a few questions

#1 Post by asop » Fri Aug 14, 2009 7:34 am

Bought a 2000 Monarch with Honda 115. Very happy with purchase, only 180 hrs. on it. Do they still mfg. Monarchs? Are stainless or alum. gate latches available and if so from where? How are pontoons best stored? We live in Wisc. and didn't get a trailer with the boat. Was told best way would be to set it on 6X6's under 4 points for winter. It would be stored outside. Something about leaving it on a trailer for storage might cause the alum. toons to split?! Thanks in advance with your help.

Welcome. Not sure if still in production. At one time I think Tracker or Starcraft owned them.
Sorry to be blunt but whoever told you logs could split sitting on trailer during winter is a DUMBASS. If I was storing without a trailer I would use support the full length. I believe Monark has full Keels which gives extra strength.
As far a hinges places like West Marine, Overtons, Bass Pro etc have hardware.

If sitting low to ground during storage be sure motor is well drained and be sure and cover motor and lower unit to keep water from freezing and breaking lower end.

I have a Monark 18 ft.

They made them as of 2005 but I can no longer find a website.

and yes, mine has the keel on the logs. You should be fine.

Mine also has the plastic gate latches and I'd like to up-grade as well.
