Ready to buy...need advice

I am about to buy my first pontoon. I have looked everywhere for one that is big enough for my family and has a good motor so we are trudging along at 6mph. I have found a 06 G3 25 foot I like with a Yamaha 115. Its very clean and was a factory demo. I am ready to pull the trigger on this, are there any concerns out there on the G3 with a 115HP motor? Thanks in advance.

I have not really heard any complaints about G3 boats. I know a member here Looneytunes has one and they are happy with it. With the 115hp on a 25' toon top speed will probably be in the mid to uper 20's mph.

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like a good boat. If you plan on skiing look at a tritoon. Pretty much agree with heat on the speed. Good Luck if you purchase that one, it should work fine.

It is very clean and has a huge sun pad on the back. We will not do any skiing, just cruising on Lake Lanier. I guess the size of the motor concerned me because you see all of these 225's out there. We are a young couple with a 4 year old and a 9 year old. I am going to look at it this week, anything I should look for in particular? Thanks in advance!

I would say a 115 is above average for a toon. More have 60's or 90's than 225's. If you are not trying to outrun the other boats, a 115 will get you around just fine!

I say go for it if the price and condition are right... :nana

Both G3 and Yamaha have good reputations for quality, buy it and enjoy :thumbsup

Pepper, I would think a 115 would be more than adequate. My son has a 115 Yamaha on his toon and it moves along pretty good. My toon is smaller, 20 footer and has a yamaha 75 hp on it and we've been really pleased with the performance. We took it out today and even in slightly windy conditions we were getting 23 mph ( gps ) running between half and 3/4 throttle.. As for G3, I really like them. In fact I was about to buy a G3 208 fishing barge when I happened on a slightly better financial deal on a bennington. I really like the fact that the G3's have very spacious layouts. Plenty of room to move about. Good luck with your decision.

Let me share my experience with you. We purchased a used tracker 18 with a 40 last summer. First time out, I knew the 40 had to go. Found a Merc 75. Did much better..upper 20's but pushed water and ate gas. Used a 24 standard tube with an Etec 115 this past year and it was a dog at 21 mph. I'd look seriously at some form of lifting device. They become a whole lot more boat and more fun!

think that was lifting strakes, aka the little fins on the side of the toon to lift the boat

No, actually I meant lifting device. My toon has a Pontoon Water Glide installed which is one device. Another device would be the lifting strakes and I guess yet another would be a third pontoon of some design since there are many outhere depending on which company makes your toon.
