Soon to be owner here in MA!

Hello Folks,
I am in danger of getting my hands on a 24' boat in the next little while. I will be inheriting it from a friends brother who doesn't use it any more! I was feeling a little guilty about taking it off his hands for nowt, but then I found out he's an investment banker.... I know nothing about the boat (or any other boat) except the length and the fact that it has an upper deck that you can jump off. It has been stored at a marina in the Adirondacks for the last few years and doesn't come with a trailer - this is a major problem as none of the marinas I have called will rent me a trailer to move it! I can't afford to buy a trailer right now and since I live on a lake it will be in the water most of the time - any suggestions? I've been asking around to see if I can borrow one, but nothing yet!
Looking forward to cruising around with the kids this summer!

- Donal

Good luck with the relocation.

Is it a pontoon or a small cruiser? Probably could advertise for someone to move it to your lake.

Thanks!
It is a pontoon. I did have a friend of a friend offer to go with me and pick it up, which was great, but it turns out his trailer is for a 20' boat. I'm not sure if that would work, but I think having 4' of the stern hanging off the end with the motor dangling probably isn't a good idea!

Some trailers for a 20'er will work on a 24'er if you move the winch mount as far forward as you can on the trailer tongue.

The main thing is that you want to have 250-300 lbs. of tongue weight on the hitch--10% minimum.

Picked up the boat yesterday with a borrowed 24' trailer - no exciting stories on the 150 mile trip home! It's been sitting in a shed for a decade and is pretty dirty and full of mouse nests, but the engine looks good (Mercury 50hp, two stroke). The steering console has some rot and will be repaired this weekend. I think the biggest issue may be the jammed steering. But I think with a little elbow grease it's going to be a lot of fun!

Try uship.com. People bid on moving boats and vehicles, I've used them twice...no problems at all.
