Q: How much fishing equipment can a man have before his wife leaves him?


A: I do not know for sure; however, I believe that the experiment is almost complete!

Last time Kevin Van Dam hit town for a Bassmaster Elite tournament, he had about 50 fishing rods in his truck. He travels with a couple hundred pounds of Mann's Jelly Worms, and Heaven knows how many KVD Strike King fishing lures. He also carries a huge fish cooker, needless to say.

A neighbor is a tournament bass fisherman, and he had to wait 6 months on a waiting list at Bass Pro Shops for certain hot selling KVD fishing lures.

KVD's wife is not going to be getting rid of him anytime soon, as all his fishing equipment is provided by sponsors. She thinks he looks cool in his Oakley KVD sun glasses. And, he makes a fortune doing seminars, etc. Hey, some big time fishermen are big businesses.

Fishing equipment is not a purchase, it is an investment toward some of the best times you will have in your life.

Good quality fishing gear will outlast the junk and save you money in the long run...so it IS an investment. But I damn near cry every time I hang up and lose a catfish rig. Sinkers, swivels, flourocarbon leader, circle hook...that gets expensive after a while!

Yeah, I bought a gold spoon and it got stuck in the mangroves on the first cast. I almost went after it, but there were too many stingrays shuffling about.

Cownose rays ? If so, they are damned good eating. We catch a bunch of them in the bay all summer. Tastes more like beef than fish.

There were a few cownose rays swimming around, but the ones I was worried about are the little ones that bury themselves in the sand. I think they are just called atlantic stingrays. I've heard they are good eating.

I'll know I've got too much when my bass boat won't get up on plane due to overloading of tackle.
I only have 11 rod/reels, so I am not worthy, but every once in awhile, a sympathetic bass will attach itself to one of my lures.
