but
I always cover my lower unit with a bucket in the winter! I broke this one in the fall when I put it on. I just replaced the transom and use the transom saver every time especially over winter!

Hey Craig. Seems like I read somewhere that one is supposed to winter a motor in the vertical position in order to properly let condensation out and avoid any chance of freezing. Not 100 percent sure on that one, but it might be worth a second opinion from someone.

I know that my I/O is mandatory to store in down position to keep critters away from seals and bellows.

I have heard that as well, but with the old transom it made a huge difference if the saver was on there or not. The flex was insane. Granted this new transom may be ok to handle it, but I haven't had any issues of freezing in 4 winters so I still do it this way I just make sure it is covered well to keep out any moisture. I am pretty sure it can still bet some air flow as well. IF I am wrong it will be expensive and I will have a definite answer on the subject.... :donno

Totally agree on transom savers when trailering. I always used one, especially on larger motors.
The moisture I am referring to is condensation during storage, which your ultra-fancy rain deflector can't protect you from, although it might save you from a bear attack :biggrin2
Just trying to save you from making a long rebuild thread even longer.

Heading down tomorrow to get THE FLOATER water ready! Load up all my vest, noodles, CUPHOLDERS!, etc. Still need to tighten everything up, mount the ski tow bar and make sure she starts up!

Pics to follow!

THE FLOATER is going to do more than sit on the trailer this year! She fired up on the 2nd turn of the key!!!! I added a pole for the cover and it seemed to do the trick. I only had about 5 gallons of water total on either side of the bow. It is almost impossible the way the fence is shaped to not have a little pooling there. I got the ski bar mounte. All the vest are on, noodles, rafts, AND CUPHOLDERS! We really wanted to take it out when we started dry boating, but the launch was full of crappie tournament and spoonbill snagging boats. We had to burn all the leaves, clean out the trailers and I had to put a new coat of roof paint on the big one. I really hate down and backs to the lake just not enough time to get everything done. I forgot the camera so I didn't get a whole lot of pics either.

We are going down in 2 weeks to put her in!

I think I may beat you this year TODD!

Looks good Craig... won't be long now and you'll be back out on the water.. I know last year was frustrating for you, but looks like you got the floater ready to go now... congrats.

Thanks Roland! If it hadn't have been Easter weekend I think we all would have stayed and took her out! 2 more weeks and she'll be wet! The Admiral was super relieved when it fired up and ran for almost 10 minutes off and on without an issue!
