I apologize to spursfiend (I am kinda highjacking his thread).
My budget, or lack there of, has put me at an impasse. I have striped the playpen panels and primed with an aluminum self etching primer (from rattle cans). What are the draw backs/disadvantages of using a rattle can to paint the panels? The advantages I see are a variety of colors, ease of use and easier on the pocket book. If a rattle can is not the end of the world, what type (brand/enamel etc.) should I use? If rattle cans are the end of the world and if I can round up a HVLP paint gun, what kind of paint do I get for that? How many of you guys have rattle canned your panels and how is it holding up?
Any suggestions would be a help.

I think you meant to post this on a different thread...

I hope not.
I saw that spursfiend had started a topic (in rebuilds section) about painting rails. That is why I commented about highjacking his thread/topic.
I am really kinda looking for input/votes for or against a rattle can paint job. If it is overwhelmingly against, what type of paint (and where) do I get for the HVLP spray gun?

I ordered my furniture (from pontoonstuff), it is supposed to be in on friday. Those guys have been great to deal with, fast replies on communication and fast on deliveries. A little disappointed with them concerning the furniture, they did not have anything on their website about the furniture being on back order. Most all the cushions are on back order until may, but they are sending the bases. Oh well, probably mostly my fault for waiting till last minute to order.
Concerning the bases, is it obvious how to install them? I am hopeful that there are good instructions, as far as spacing etc.. Anyone have any good tips?

Gotcha...I was a little confused by seeing that post in this thread
At this point I have no advice, just input. A paint job is only as good as it's base, to a certain extent. Rattle can primer is just that...it's not 2 part sprayed from a gun so that's a step backwards. However, if you decide to mix and spray the top coat it will be harder than rattle can, so that will help. It really depends on how well you can take care of it. I've seen fantastic rattle can jobs. But we all know mix & spray will hold up to the bumps & bruises better. So at this point I think it's a crap shoot.
On to your bases. Too bad about the back orders...IMO that should be clearly posted. Here's how I mount my seating: I drill/bolt the bases together to form any groupings, then mount the cushions to them. Then I use the (hopefully) supplied SS washer head screws to screw them to the deck. Don't go through the drain holes, make your own. The screws go through the plastic and into the wood with out pre-drilling ...no problems.
My suggestion is to NOT mount the bases to your boat with out the cushions. You will end up having a difficult time positioning the seats where you want them. The base will not always end up perfectly square and tight against the railing in every spot. After your cushions are mounted, it's no big deal but you may not be able to mount them without taking the base loose from the floor and making another set of holes. That's my .02

Great info thanks!
I said that I had rattle canned the primer on...but it did not happen (was on the list to do, then the boys baseball games started, then something else yadda yadda life got in the way). Thanks again Toonguy, I am going to farm out the paint job.
On the cushions, I am hoping I missed something on the website. They have been nothing but great to work with, no hassles other than my disappointment of them not seeing my lack of planning as their emergency

I will continue to do business with them.
I am taking Friday off and hope to get rub rails on, console in and wired. Pics on the way

When I look at their site it shows the grey blue on BO till 5-1 unless they changed it after your order????

I am still not seeing it. Can you post a screenshot of where your looking? Not that it matters, I am just curious where my ignorance has reinforced my lack of planning. Here is what I ordered...from an ipad

Just so we are clear I am not upset at pontoonstuff.com, they have done their job great. I am disappointed in myself for waiting to order at the last minute

Hi Ercarp
It's not your fault at all! You should be able to order at any time and get your seats fast... that's how I built my business and unfortunately I'm failing on that aspect at the moment. As I write this I've been going through all our products and updating groupings, etc that are effected by our "out of stock" situation. We had an explosion of sales that we couldn't ramp up for and it's blown through a ton of my inventory and put us back a month on some of our most popular colors and items. By the end of the day everything will be updated so customers won't get surprised like this.
I am very sorry for this inconvienece and if you could email me at
jmyers1165@gmail.com I'd like to find a way to make the waiting a bit more bearable... please contact me with your order number when you can.
Thank you so much for your business and I apologize to anyone else whose been effected by us not having properly inventory. I'm doing everything I can to get us caught up and we will be expanding our current 30,000 square foot warehouse to 70,000 square foot this fall so we won't have this problem next year.
