Pontoon Stuff provides materials to make my toon new

First time my toon has made it on the forum in a while, my toon is 23 years old and was over do for a make over, got a good start at it today, all we have to do is get the wood off it and call PontoonStuff with a big list when we figure out what all we want, every thing will be new, down to the screws, before my brother and I are finished.

My Wood was in dam good shape for it's age, but a few places did de-laminate and a small layer pulled off with the carpet, was thinking about leaving it, but then since we down this far, it all must go, that will make it easier to get the toons back shining inside and out, we are going to polish all metal parts not replaced, it will be as close to rolling out of the factory as we can get it.

The best thing will be having a new boat, with no payments

I want to thank James at Pontoon Stuff in advance for helping me pull this off and helping get my toon back on the water looking great

They've got some pretty cool looking products. I can't wait to see the results of work by an experienced "Handyman" Keep us updated Herb! Our toon was 6 when we bought it in '04 but was a seasonal day use toon and garaged. It's been the same for us. It's amazing how good a 15 year toon can look when it's been out of the elements.

That's another great thing about a toon. It's a floating dock with a motor that can be stripped and rebuilt like a street rod. You can take an older toon, update the running gear, do a vinyl wrap on the fence and put new furniture on the deck for a fraction of new. I got lucky enough to score one with a aluminum deck too :biggrin2

I was suprised how quick we got it apart, we got started late, it was after 2 pm before I got it to my brothers, but by seven thirty we had everything off to the carpet, and had the carpet off by 10 pm, after taking a supper break and sitting down for a little while, damit, I didn't even get a drink of creek water all night, we were busy.

Looking good. I like that enclosure. Is that on a full slab?

While you're going to the trouble and expense of rebuilding from the toons up, make sure you include a "creek water" dispenser. You never know when you'll need it for snake bite, fire ants, mosquito bites or to mellow out.

I'm always in awe of folks who undertake such projects. I am an absolute master at tearing things up. Putting them back together properly is an entirely different situation!!

Yes it is my brothers now, came with the house, use to belong to a Buddie of Dad's, they worked and painted many grayhound buses converted to RV's in there over the years and you can't find to many signs they painted in there at all, and we done a few projects in it too and I'm sure we find a bunch more to do before we are done.

It's great place to work out of the sun or the rain

Yea, they're easier to tear down than put back together.

If you've got to replace plywood, look around and you'll find plywood specialty warehouses in every big city. I've got one closeby in this city of 59K people. The big box hardware stores don't carry the marine grade plywood. It's easier to deal with a local supplier than getting it brought in by trucking company.

We've also got a Fastenal dealership next to the plywood store that sells all the stainless steel fasteners in bulk. They're much cheaper.

I replaced the carpet on my 1985 model Starcraft a few years ago, and had some bubbling of the carpet. My mistake was not renting one of those heavy steel vinyl floor rollers to roll the carpet down after it was installed. I don't know that the mastic/glue I got at Lowes was really the best stuff to use on a pontoon.

Good luck!

Herb,
What is that around your propeller? Some kind of guard? Just today I was thinking about the prop in shallow water and how to protect it. My first thought was mounting the outboard onto a kick-up type transom that is connected to the toon's main transom. Like what sailboats use to raise the shaft/prop out of the water when under sail. I like your idea! What's it made of? Can u share details of install? PM me if u have time? Thanks!

Prop Guard adds to low speed handling, keep kids from getting cut on prop when swimming around the toon, protects prop, stops weed fouling and in real low water you can tilt up the engine and it will act like a jet drive to push you though, I have been in areas where I was shooting nothing but mud out of the guard and made it through.

The only minus is I lost 1 MPH, but didn't miss it a bit, I need to paint it as it has faded in our hot ass sun over the years, but it's still in great shape.
