Bamaman. I have looked at a few new APs and taken many pics and measurements. Placement isn't an issue. I'm going to take the tubes off in the fall once boating season is over and get them welded on. I have aluminum welders both tig and mig but I have a small shop that I cannot fit the boat in and welding aluminum outdoors is certainly not the preferred way to do it.

Jake_daddy. Yeah it has 3" U channel as the crossmembers. Water was hitting them pretty hard. It felt kinda like tapping the brakes lightly going over every wave. With someone else driving look up under yours from the front at speed and see what it looks like. If it's anything like mine you will see easily what's going on. The underskinning made a huge difference.

That's good to know as underskinning is my next attempt at getting a little better top end. I switched props up last weekend to a 15P four blade and it had noticeably better bite than my 13P that was over revving. When I quickly found my top end was basically identical to the 13P I took speed and rpm readings from 1500rpm to WOT and ran some prop slip numbers. The slip was highest around 2400RPM and 7mph, ~53% slip, plowing through and as the boat started to lift the nose out of the water my slip number dropped to around 35% at 16mph around 4000rpm. From what I understand is that the slip numbers should improve up to WOT as your boat comes out of the water a bit, even more pronounced if you have strakes, but after 4000rpm my slip numbers again started to increase up to almost 39% at 20mph at 5300rpm.

On a pretty calm day I still get my floor soaked and can definitely feel any bit of waves in the water telling me those cross members are getting pounded.

Thanks for the info!

Well here I am again 2 years later. Some more progress on my toon build. Got the Yami 150 hung a couple years ago. What a difference. Speed went to 32mph. A year later I pulled the tubes off and welded on the lifting strakes. Another huge improvement. It rides much higher and drier, cruises 25-30 with ease and tops out at 39mph. Not bad. I recently purchased 6 tubes from a local marina and plan to start building a center transom tube.
