1992 Vibo Recarpet

#1 Post by Ryan1 » Wed Jun 26, 2013 10:06 pm

Hello,

First time toon owner. I've had other boats in the past but always wanted a pontoon.
Found what I thought was a good deal this spring. It's a 1992 Vibo 21 foot Pontoon. Has all the furniture, sun deck, full snap cover, bimini with changing room and toilet. It has a 40Hp oil injected Merc Mariner.
Picked it up for $3500. Has the octagonal toons. (One seems to have some water in it).
A lot of the bolts are rusted. Originally I was just going to do the fence riser kit, replace all the bolts and do the carpet in the fall. After taking off the first fence I figured what the heck, I'll just go ahead and do the carpet now.
I'm starting tomorrow. Ill post as many pictures as I can as I go.

Getting there. The corner seat and frame was rotted pretty good.

Is there a secret to getting the outside aluminum border off I don't seem to see any screw holding it down.

Im still stuck trying to get the aluminum trim off.... Its all one piece welded together. The middles pull out but the corners don't wanna move. There are no rivets that I can see. Im wondering if I'm gonna have to cut a weld and have someone weld it back for me.

Thats odd that the aluminum trim won't come off. I am in the process of doing the same to my 92 Suncrusier, and once I got all the bolts off, the aluminum became loose and could easily be removed.

Was the carpet glued down? If it was, maybe the aluminum got glued by mistake when manufactured.

I can't imagine that you would need to cut a weld. The only way you would need to is if they welded the pieces to each other when on the wood floor.

Does the aluminum trim wiggle at all?

All the corners are welded. You can see in the one picture I can pull the trim away from the wood but only in the middle areas. when I get close to the corners there is no give. It wont just lift up either as there is a lip where the wood floor slide into the trim. As for the Glue there seemed to be no glue when I pull up the old carpet

The snaps up front aren't holding it.. I took those out and still little to no movement on the corners

Holy hell! They are welded!! Cut the welds on each back corner and you should be able to lift everything off and then on, on having to put some bolts just on the back corners when you put them back on.....
