I tinkered on this project a bit the other day, nothing really exciting but it's still progress! I spent a few hours and tore all the original south bay wiring harness out so I can start from scratch. I'm thinking about ordering my vinyl that I'm going to replace the carpet with soon also, I'll post pics when I cross that bridge.

Boy does this sound familiar:
South Bay Harness

Pulling the SouthBay carpet really sucked. They use some pretty strong glue :donno
I ended up tearing it off with my truck. It was very messy and took way too long. Then the floor was pretty uneven with glue clumps and scraper divots. A few more hours with a rented floor sander and some bondo and it still wasn't perfect, but the vinyl went on and still looks good two years later.

I figured removing the carpet wouldent be any fun, but it has to be done. I can't have a fishing toon with carpet! Removing the harness wasent very fun either, there is no room in between those tubes, and I'm only 150#s.

Good call on the vinyl. I swear by it. Pulling the carpet? May the force be with you :scared
We started with just an ice scraper, then I rented a 'floor spud' which is basically a scraper on steroids. Then pounded away until I could get a couple of feet loose. As the boat was pretty well locked to the ground (on tires), I figured it would stay put as I pulled with the truck. We used a thick rope and made a noose around the loose flap. It took about ten different 'pulls' as it didn't want to pull full width. Then the piece I was working on would unravel and I would have to start all over again.
Made a heckuva mess. Took two of us nearly a day. Then a couple more days on surface prep. Hopefully yours goes easier.

Laying the vinyl in one piece (25') was a bit of a challenge as well. It didn't take more than a few hours, but absolutely took three of us to manhandle it. That was my third time doing it and I developed a procedure that worked well for me (no bubbles). Let me know if you are interested and I will write it up.

Ya Todd, I'll take any ideas you may have. When I installed vinyl on my old 24'er it took 3 of us, we payed it on the deck then folded it in half and did one half at a time. This boat will only have about 20' of the new vinyl since I'm going to butt it up against the original teak vinyl on the stern.

If you've done it once, you are way ahead of the game.
Depending on the type of glue you use, it can be repositioned, but I didn't go that route.
I always used good quality contact cement. NO forgiveness there. I got a couple of bubbles in my first one trying to do too big of sections. And once it touches, you are done. The extra little changes I made solved it a bit.
Basically did it in quarters instead of halves. Here's my steps (if it makes any sense):
1 Lay it full length.
2. Clamp down 1/2 of it so it doesn't move.
3. Fold back the loose half. So far the same as most online advice. Here's where I changed it.
4. Roll up half of that inward, leaving 1/4 exposed (at the center of the boat).
5. Clamp the roll so that it can be handled by two people as '1 piece'.
5. Paint both floor and vinyl. Let it breathe 'till it tacks
6. Now the touchy part- two people pick up the roll (high) and stretch it out over the glued floor but do not let it touch. Keep tension on it as you go. While doing this, the third person used an aluminum wand with a little duct tape ball on the end to tend the vinyl in the center to keep it from touching. Once it is stretched out, the 'rover' then went around to the other side of the roll (onto the finished side of the vinyl). The rover then used a small roller and worked from the center to the edges while the other two people slowly lowered the roll.
7. Repeat the same basic process three more times. Not a single bubble!
8. Finally a good HEAVY floor roller over the whole thing to seal the deal.

Lemme know if you discovery any other tricks, as I am already committed to do a friend's boat sometime this summer...as long as he does all the prep

Ordered a few parts for the toon today, new vinyl to replace the carpet and 2 front corner baitwells. I called to order the console I've been wanting only to find out it has been discontinued [:x] [:x] the guy that was suppose to fab my fencing also backed out so I've got some looking around to do!

Ya but things turnd around pretty quick, I was able to find another console I liked for less than half of what the one I wanted cost. I also found a nice galley with sink and a side console like I built on my last boat. I'll post a few pics shortly.

Thanks, it's pretty similar to the veada console I wanted. I starting to like this one more now that I've started planing how I'll mount everything in it... Plus it has plenty of room to mount a nice big humminbird! :alright
