Motor Well Upgrade To Include Fuel Tank

We plan to put a new engine on our old pontoon boat and I want to replace the motor well at the same time.
My idea is to have a local fabricator build a small third pontoon to be mounted in place of the motor well. It will contain about 30 gallons of fuel and have a well to mount the engine on the aft end.
It will be nice to get the fuel tank off the deck and the new pontoon should provide some additional floatation aft. The existing motor well slaps badly on waves and I think a pointy bow would ride better.
Has anyone else done something like this?

That's the way most new 2 log boats are built. If you go for added flotation make sure you don't get too light in the rear, you need the bow up while under way.

Well, we wound up making a new motor well that will add some floatation, but did not include the fuel tank. Instead, we had a custom fuel tank made that is part of the stern rail.
I got the call today saying our new Tohatsu 60 has been delivered to the shop, so there will be lots of new developments soon.
Here is the story so far, with pictures:

One thing I have been wondering: should I put zinc(s) on this well? If so, where and how many?

Yes. Mine came with 2, one on each side.

I have not put any zincs yet. Still trying to get the new well waterproof.
Update to the repowering saga:

Boat is looking good! I did a similar deal on my rebuild but made it longer. I like the bow of yours better I had a spray issue with mine. The open bow should be great for fishing.
