Ok, I just picked up my "marine grade" plywood. The guy there said they sell lots of it and 95% of it is for boat projects. "If its for a boat, then this is what you want". I asked them if it was cca treated, they didn't know. PS.com sells cca treated, so using logic, that is what I want. Then I look on the internet and see reports that the cca treated stuff has copper in it and the copper reacts with the aluminum causing pits, so I don't want cca treated. Just kinda confused. I know I want the marine grade glue. The plywood I just got has that. But, do I want the cca or not? I can find stuff on the net saying that I want it and stuff saying that I don't.

There are two common choices now for treating + a few others. One is called A.C.Q. and one is called C.A. These are VERY corrosive. CCA which is what Pontoon stuff sells is the Preferred lumber approved to use on pontoon boats and is used by all pontoon manufactures. The combination of the process and chemicals used to treat the wood is why this is the safest most resilient option for marine applications.

Well, the more I thought about it, and figured the extra expense of the sealer and the time, I returned the non treated marine plywood and called PS and got the good stuff. Should be here Friday. Also, just in case anybody else is stuck on the same issue, I got 5 sheets of the good stuff from PS, for $8 more than the 4 sheets of the not so good stuff. In the long run, I'm sure it was money well spent.

I ordered the wood on Tuesday evening, showed up at work on Friday afternoon. Actually will be installing it in just a couple hours. Any last minute tips???

Well, we have a floor! The wood is all bolted down. The carpet is laying across the floor for a couple days till I get time to rent the 100 LB roller and glue it down.

I run a lumberyard and we get that question a lot. Marine Grade plywood is a high grade of exterior plywood that differs from regular plywood in strength only. Almost all plywoods these days use a waterproof exterior glue. Marine ply just has high grade plys of wood with no voids allowed. It is commonly used on transoms where the strength is needed. Pressure treated plywood is often a lower grade strength-wise, but is chemically treated to hold up better when in contact with water. Most Pontoon decks are decked with Pressure Treated plywood...
