I am ordering a new console as part of my rebuild... I was going to use the old one but since I am doing new seats it seems like getting rid of the old plywood console is a good idea...

I am thinking of doing new gauges and I know nothing about this stuff...

Its a 95 Sundancer with a 90HP Force... Do I need anything besides Speed and RPM? Do I need a particular type of gauges or just marine gauges?

Any suggested sources that are less expensive?

Great Lakes Skipper has some pretty good deals on new gauges as sets. You can actually buy entire OEM gauge clusters, breaker panels, switch panels, etc at good prices. These are mostly brand new leftovers from boat manufacturers. I like to Have Speed, RPM, Fuel, and Trim at a minimum. Having water pressure, oil pressure, water temp, etc are nice but not necessary. They are a little more but the GPS speedometers are nice because they give you an actual speed reading and not just a reading from a pickup that will be a little off.

You an also buy entire console assemblies on there and that might be the way to go.

Pontoonstuff has a couple of consoles. The large one has several options for gauges and switches.
They sold me this one for my old boat. I added some of the items on it.

Perhaps the addition of a voltmeter may be useful too

I am still digging on this...

I am guessing the volt, fuel and speed are pretty simple... I am lost on the tach... I have a 90HP Force and from what I can narrow off the serial number its a 93-95... I think that calls for a 12 pole tach but I have no clue for sure and I don't want to buy until I know for sure...

The local marine places are basically just bring us the boat and we will do it... Which is fine but they won't give a solid price going in and I can't afford to end up with a $500 bill for some gauges...

gauges are fairly easy to hook up. I can walk you through it...

I would stay away from the plastic consoles. My brother bought one two years ago as a replacement for a fiberglass one. After some time in the hot sun it started to get soft and droop. It still does the job but the glove box does not open properly and all of the straight lines are no longer straight. Spend a little more money and go with a fiberglass one.
