14 ft Tritoon Build

#1 Post by Beachpig » Wed Aug 31, 2016 7:22 pm

Wanted to build a smaller fishing pontoon. Found a 14' 1996 Sea Hunt 8' wide rotting away at a marina near Detroit. Drove 5 hours each way and picked it up. Was in rough shape. Had nice solid 23" tubes though. Tore it down to the cross members are started from scratch. Originally made it a open deck no furniture fishing platform with a tiller motor. Eventually broke down and added a steering console and bench seating. Added a center tube and I really liked the way everything came out. I also converted a trailer originally designed for a deep V into a trailer for the pontoon boat. I decided that I needed more room so just sold it and picked up (2) 22' long 25" tubes and I'm starting with a new project. I'll post the info on the new project in another post. I loved building the first one and it was great driving the boat after all the hard work I put in. I learned a lot during the first build and look forward to this next one.

Cute little bugger... What kind of speed did it wrangle once you went with the 3rd toon and bigger motor?

Oh Oo, sounds like somebody's thinking of adding a 3rd toon?

With the 3 tubes and 30hp I saw around 15mph. No speed demon. Was a great little boat. Awesome for fishing. Piece of cake to launch and retrieve.
