Depth Finder Opinions?

#1 Post by beermunk » Wed Mar 11, 2009 4:28 pm

New boat doesn't come with a depth sounder or a fish finder. My Whaler has two and they're staying on it (she's my fishing boat for two). Because this boat is a cruiser I'd really just like the built in depth sounder that gives just the depth in foot and looks stock but because that's not available I'll have to get a big ugly fish finder.

So what do you guys have mounted on your 'toons that you like? My main concern is just a big read out for depth, a nice audible low depth warning and something that doesn't draw an azz load of power.

Thanks in advance! (btw I did a search on this and came up with nothing)

I kept an eye on craigslist and found a guy selling one for cheap, looks and works like new (cant remember the brand at the moment)... All I use it for is depth so I didnt care much about the fish finding capability!

My 2007 version of your toon came with a depth/temp guage mounted in the dash...
Its this one: http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Mar ... /LST-3800/

Worked great so far...
Only thing is, my toon has factory underskinning, and the cable was thread through there before underskinning.... Prob would be a major pain in da ass for me to change transducers now....
