well on a toon if there is enough clearance as to not hit anything then down..... BUT if it has to be tilted to clear then a transom saver should be used...

the MOST force your transom is ever going to see is when the boat is coming out of the hole, fully loaded, with 2 kids in the tube at WOT with my mother in law sitting on the port side. now if my transom can take that it will withstand the ultimate forces associated with towing and yes even storage of an elevated motor.
We boat a lot in Branson on table rock, getting to the boat dock down those roads you come across all kinds of driveways some that make the back of a 24' boat trailer drag even with 14" of clearance. keeping the motor up keeps the prop and the skeg out of the blacktop.
If you want to spend your money on a transom saver knock yourself out it your money, just don't tell Obama what comes after a trillion
