Oil brands

#1 Post by gobigblue » Sun Jul 05, 2009 1:13 pm

My toon is powered by a 90hp Mercury 2 stroke. Quicksilver oil is about 28.00 a gallon here. Pennzoil is about 16.00. Would I do any damage using the Pennzoil over the Quicksilver. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I think you would be fine. I used Yamalube in mine until last year when it went to over $30 a gallon. I now use Penzoil full synthetic. I get it at my local Menards for $20. So far so good.

The Mercury lube is getting hard to find, basicly dealer only item.

I keep one opened and one unopened, when I break the seal on the unopened I start making a trip to dealers to find a good price on the next one. I keep using the Merc brand, for nothing more than I like doing that then no one has any complaints about oil.

I have always used the 2 stroke Pennzoil Premium from Wally World and have had no problems, hopefully I won't !

For my Evinrude E-Tec, I got 3 retail gallons when I got the boat, as I use them, I take them to the service department of the shop that powered the boat and they refill them from their bulk supply at about half the price of retail.

i stay with mercruiser/quicksilver oils and lubes.
not sure which exact oil you're using, but the price
sounds high to me. check the price here.
i buy a case of quarts at a time, plus a few oil filters,
and the price is great, even with shipping.
