Well drained lower unit and had water in it. Going to pull and take to mechanic for seal test.

Good idea but...................I would just change them all! regardless. While you have it down it may be the best thing to do.

Vacuum & pressure test is something few do often enough.

I ignored my lower unit, and it turned to toast (Yamaha 115 hp 2 stroke.) Spent 4th of July watching everyone on the lake drive by our house.

We had to buy a whole new boat.

He is going to make sure bearings are good and go ahead and replace all seals. Also install new impeller while out.

Yeah, I replaced my impeller for the first time... And I had water when I drained it.

The instructions I followed did NOT mention sealing the lower unit when I put it back on. It's sealed now!

Glad you csught it Lloyd. Matter of fact I need to make a post about the only useful tip that I actually use of yours ever since I joined 7 years ago.

Luckily mine was nice and black and stinky last weekend.

Another great idea.

A good mechanic told me a few years ago that a lower unit take down and impeller change every two years is a good Idea. for the impeller as well as the lower unit bolts being taken out and cleaned so as to prevent seizure which id very expensive when it happens. I can see the logic in that as well.

Well he called a bit ago and said he pressure tested and all seals held pressure for 2 hours. He told me my driveshaft seal almost looked melted on top flange. He ask how I use boat because he has seen other evinrudes that spend a lot of time at idle getting the driveshaft seal under the impeller get hot. Well I spend 90% trolling at 900 rpm. He said to just replace driveshaft and gear shaft seals as the propshaft seal was fine.
