Mercury Outboard Alarm

#1 Post by MOHAVEMAN1 » Mon Oct 26, 2015 8:20 am

Mercury Outboard I have a 2011 PB 24 with a 115 Mercury 4 stroke elpt Boat and motor have 42 hrs total Update to all interested got my PB 24 back from Tracker and they did i fabulous rebuild job on boat Anyway just has Mecrury dealer go through motor like a 300 hr service and they did a complete service to motor. I just had boat and motor out for first time last week on Lake Mohave and on start up and after about 30 seconds recvd a audio alarm (solid) from motor signal lasted about 10 seconds and stopped I shut down motor and looked motor over but did not see any issues I then restrarted motor and no alarms at all and continue rest of day testing out boat and motor Everything went as aspected perfect. No further alarms Discharge flow was just fine and motor ran perfect. Boat had sit for 4 months after recvd back from Mercury dealer and after 300 hr service .Checked water temp from discharge and it was warm (not Hot) I wondering since motor sat for awhile after service if oil pump or oil level pooled at bottom and just took a moment to get up the needed levels. Never had a alarm before and not anymore that day with starting and stopping engine several times. Any feedback or suggestions welcome As far as PB Tracker replaced 4 cross members and added several additional structural bars and braces at rear of boat and around motor pod and then completely underpinned bottom , all under warranty Great Job Tracker

You most likely got a over heat alarm.
Was it peeing water in the first 30 seconds???
My guess is your t-stat was stuck closed and had to really heat up before it finally opened.

No ear-muffs required on that Merc 115 ELPT - there's a place on the back of the motor where you can just screw the garden hose in. Not all Merc's have this, but the 115 ELPT definitely does.

I have a similar hook up with a garden hose 'screw in' fitting. I was told by my dealer to use this for flushing the motor after saltwater use. And, DO NOT start the motor with this connection. Use ear muffs at the water pick up down below near the prop. Using just the upper hose fitting and running the motor will damage the impeller/water pump. At least that's how it works on my Yamaha VF115. Maybe Mercs are different...

Thanks to all for info Yes there is a motor flush after salt water flush but it is strickly for flush out the salt water. Dealer advised NOT TO START motor while using flush out for salt water fitting. Mercury and dealer both advised use EAR MUFFS at intake vents when starting and running engine, when engine out of water (at home).

That is for saltwater flush, I'll still use muffs but you do what is comfortable for you.
