Describe your wedge and how it is used. If it is what I am picturing it probably is used to keep the motor raised. This will increase the stress on your transom and I think you have already had enough trouble with that. A transom saver transfer stress from the transom to the trailer which it would seem you would like.

This is one of those topics that there is no clear consensus on... some use them, some don't... Personally I haven't used one on my pontoon... The owners manual for Yamaha states that if you have plenty of road clearance you should just tow your rig with the motor trimmed down... if you don't have enough road clearance then obviously you need a transom saver of some sort... If I ever get one it will be from this website.. Motormateusa.com They are a bit pricey, but sure do get a lot of good reviews...

I never have used one either. If you think about it when you trim your motor up your moving the heavy end of your outboard, the motor over the other side of the transom. If you have a weak transom that can't handle the weight of the motor then you have a problem that should be corrected. There is a lot of stress and force put on the transom from accelerating, letting off the throttle and sharp turns in the water. I have been boating for 35 years with heavy V6 outboards from 175HP to 300HP on fiberglass boats and pontoons and never had a problem. This support was developed years ago for boats with weak transoms or a trim that leaks down, if you have a bad transom you could use it but its just a crutch till you correct the problem.

Re: Transon Saver type or MY-Wedge type
I always use a transom saver for the highway tows. I did not use one on the Premier when I first bought it and brought it home (350 mile ride) and the weight of the Verado did crack the transom. It was on the factory trailering clip, the way the dealer prepped it. Premier warranted it out, so the repair was free, but since then I use one all the time. I have pics on another thread here somewhere showing the damage. I tried the MY wedge on my Manitou years ago, I lost it between Keokuk Iowa and Palmyra Mo on highway 61. Have always used a trailer mounted one since.
In my opinion---- use one.

Ever manually tilt say a 150 by hand.? There is a lot of weight sticking out when it is tilted up. Picture a long Pipe wrench attached to your transom with a weight on the end of the handle. Now imagine what happens every time you hit a bump. Or just tilt your motor up and then push down on the prop and watch your transom flex unless it is very strong.garygve wrote: If you think about it when you trim your motor up your moving the heavy end of your outboard, the motor over the other side of the transom.
I myself have plenty of road clearance and keep the motor down while traveling, but if I couldn't I would have some kind of transom saver.

I use one even though I have plenty of road clearance.
I even use two hold down straps at the rear.

I have one that attaches on the bottom end to a bracket on the rear trailer cross bar and the other end obviously cradles up under the lower end. No transom stress . You can actually make one with not a lot of work.
