Hi Guys,
Bought a 2013 Sweetwater with 115 hp Yamaha. Has only the basic gauges, fuel, volt, tach, speed, trim. NO warning lights for oil pressure or water temp. Sounds like I have to trust a "buzzer" and try to figure out if it oil or temp. Scary for me...not even some "idiot" light. What are the suggestions?

I removed all the gauges except the fuel gauge on my Pontoon and installed an oem Yamaha tach when I repowered. This tach sounds an alarm when something goes wrong with the motor ie. low oil pressure, over heating, etc.

I would think Yamaha would have some form of "smart gauge" available for that engine, but buzzers do work just fine IMO. My Suzuki has a system check Tachometer which is the Basic Tach + Oil, overheat, Over rev, and check engine lights built in. Its a step between Nothing and expensive nmea smart gauges. A quick look on the Yamaha sight shows a Basic tach with Oil pressure and Water temps lights built in.

Many of the newer GPS Fishfinders have the capability of displaying lots of engine data. Look for one that includes NEMA2000 functions. You can then purchase a NEMA2000 kit and a cable that connects to a port on your motor. At least that's how I understand it. I hope to do such a hookup on mine.

The guy that services my boat every year has suggested to me that I let him install a water pressure gauge so I can tell if the water impellar is up to snuff... I'm sure it's a good idea, i just havent done it... other than that, I'm in the same situation... basic gauges... so far no problem.

When I owned the twin Yamaha 200's, they had smart guages which were pretty dang sweet. Neat feature was they kept the twin's rpms in sync. Best part was fuel gallons per hour burned.
I looked into getting something similar for my Mercury Verado 150 and balked, as it was too expensive to add after the fact. Almost $1000 incl labor to install.
The Mercury has a bunch of warning beeps it throws off if something is wrong. Kind of like learning Morse Code, but at least it alerts you.
