SMH - heard on dealer showroom

#1 Post by zoom650 » Wed Apr 13, 2016 6:24 am

I had to trailer my boat to the dealer for some work yesterday. I may have water in a toon, but that's another post.

I couldn't resist browsing around his showroom and was staring at the huge 6 cyl Merc Verado Pro 200 on most of their units similar to mine.

Then Charlie says, "yep, they cost us about the same as that 150 cost when you bought yours". Thanks a lot for that. Just what I wanted to hear.

So, there you go, guys. Get more for your money when you shop!

.. and good luck.

Is that where you left it, Mike? Or did you press him for a trade in? Nothing like hearing that Supercharger whining behind you at WOT! :biggrin2

The flying U-bolt FUBAR

#3 Post by zoom650 » Thu Apr 14, 2016 6:04 am

Ha, ha, ha. Good one. The wife would have smiled and said, it's your money, do whatever you want. Then she would have picked out another big ticket item and charged it to the credit card. After I bought the boat, she spent 20 grand on two sewing machines. Sewing machines??, really!!

Yes, I did leave it. It's riding maybe 6 inches lower in the water than last year. Speed is off by about 8 mph, so something isn't right. If there is water in the toon, I hope it counts as warranty work, but we didn't discuss that yet.

Then, there was the wind and waves that pushed the bow against the dock. The ups and downs beat the crap out of the center toon nose cone. I beat it back straight with a mallet and epoxy puttied the crack until a time like this when the there was a real pontoon issue. The guy hunting down the leak can make the bow pretty again.

About time for a total engine service, so we're doing that too.

Oh yeah, check this FUBAR .. my fault totally. Pulling the boat for this trip to the dealer, at the marina ramp, wind was giving me a bitch of a time blowing the boat off the bunks. After multiple attempts, in and out, I needed to tie a line from boat cleat to dock to pull the boat back onto it's bunk. About that time a dock hand shows up and pushes from the other side and tells me to drive off. I forget about the line still being tied, drove off and the line pulled the cleat and breaking the board off the dock.

Here's the damage. The flying U-bolt and piece of board penetrated the rear, starboard leg of my binimi frame and was stuck there. No one was around to get hurt, so that was a good thing. Among other frustrations, I had to go to the office and own up to the damage. They were nice about it. Told them to bill me.

Does shit happen?, or what? So, dealer is ordering a new bimini legs.

Holy smokes! That really popped to pierce the frame... I hope that's the end of your unlucky streak and the rest of season goes without a hitch. 20 grand on 2 sewing machines? They must be some heavy duty, gold plated, sons of guns...
Let me know when you buy that Verado, Buddy! :biggrin2
