Sticky furniture.

#1 Post by Goudax3 » Tue Aug 23, 2016 2:52 pm

Our furniture sticks together where the bottom cushions and seat backs meet. I try to open them up and I have just to shove my hands between them to separate the two. I can clean and clean and a few days later it is the same again. 2015 South Bay, always covered. South Bay has not replied, with any comments. Other than that the furniture is very good. Any ideas?

What are you using to clean the seats? Are you using the 303 protectant? They have a
cleaner also. Maybe a mild mixture of Dawn dish detergent in water. old jim

Pontoon Stuff has a good deal on the 303 stuff, a bottle of cleaner and a bottle of protectant.

I have a 2013 excursion which is made by forest River also maker of South Bay. Mine did the same thing till I started using 303 cleaner and the 303 protector.

We have a 2015 Berkshire and don't have this issue......Same company... Forest River Marine.

I use Overton's Vinyl cleaner spray.

Funny this, I posted this question today and later today I got a answer from SB. They had forwarded my question to the furniture manufacturer. What said is that it is caused by many vinyl cleaners. Suggested that I try using water by itself. I will try that and buy some 303 as well. I had tried Dawn and water with the same result. They also mention that heat can cause or make worse the problem. Our boat is always on a lift and the lift has a very dark cover. Might watch the temp as well. Will update as I progress.

Quick update: The 303 stuff seems to have fixed the issue. Not 100% as of yet, but I can now open the seats without having to force the two pieces apart. Thanks for the advice!

We tried 303 but I wasn't impressed because the seats still seemed to absorb water and small spots seem to still be difficult to come off. Verified with the dealer we could use any marine protectant and maintain the warranty. We've been using starbrite vinyl guard and love it so far. Has their Teflon in it and water beads up better on it but isn't slippery. It also gives a little shine, has a pleasant snell, and stuff comes off easier. I also use their boat guard with Teflon to treat the panels so they won't fade. I was informed that west marine products are made by them and considerably cheaper so I'm going to give them a try next I think.
