Mine are probably 2 to 3 inches from the pontoon.

Hawker, my tracker trail star has inside guide ons that are just about worthless. That
is why I am thinking some outside ones. The post by Tums got me on this subject.

My horizontal guides have 1.5" of clearance on the inside of each toon.

Our lake has medium steep ramps. My inside mounted guides on the rear are under water, and thus they're not very effective.

If I trailered my boat very often, I'd modify the rear supports where the bunks would be 1" from the under deck sheeting. They'd work so much better if they were longer.

Somebody had previously posted this type setup so I copied it and it has worked out really well for me. I believe it cost me about $80 dollars total to build w/ 2" PVC pipe.
