Any anchor lights that FIT the bimini frame?

#1 Post by guy48065 » Tue Jun 27, 2017 9:29 am

What is everyone using for an anchor light on your bimini top? I want one with a folding mast and all I have found have bases that fit the top frame if mounted sideways.
So is that what everyone does--mount it so it folds sideways?

My original was a tracker floppy POS. I took a 3" by 4" piece of flat aluminum, mounted it to bimini frame and with SS bolts and mounted the new LED anchor light to the aluminum so it would store sideways instead of straight back. This was to reduce chance of branch breaking light from base and making it easier to slip cover over light

I simply remove, stow & replace as needed... If not a plug in style already they are simple to rewire. Another thing is I shorten them a little too...

I got different results calling it a "folding stern light" and it turns out our friends at PontoonStuff have a horizontal-mount folding light with a base that looks like it's meant to fit a 1" rail.

I have one like this. It folds side to side instead of forward and back. So it lays against the rail of the Bimini when folded.

I don't know--maybe folding to the side is the norm. My entire boating experience has been on my one small lake. No marina to browse to compare notes. No large popular lakes nearby means no boat stores.
Nobody posts pictures of their anchor light so I have to come here & ask stupid questions. ;-)

My current light has a narrow base that fits the rail and it folds forward & back--which seems sensible. The base is metal and all the replacements look to be plastic (tho I'm sure high-end toons come with better). Only reason I was looking to replace it is the clear lens over the bulb disappeared. It's not an Atwood so those replacements don't fit.
(Anyone need a spare brand new Atwood cap--I'll give ya a good deal!)

I read that wrong I guess. I liked the side fold due to folding up the Bimini and being able to make it secure. Or putting it under the boot (which I currently don't have) for travel.

Yeah the base on mine is plastic. But it seems strong enough.

I have an old one that I replaced with the LED one. I'll try to take a picture. Maybe the cover would fit yours? If it looks like it does I'll send it to you. It will be a bit as I don't have it here with me.
