Mercury blues

#1 Post by Ronthehandyman » Wed Jun 24, 2020 1:27 pm

I have a 2006 Mercury 50HP 2 stroke on a 24’ Suntracker Pontoon boat.

Can someone tell me what this brown wire goes to? I found it disconnected when I took the cover off of the motor.

The motor has a separate reservoir for the 2 stroke oil. It could be the low oil buzzer. I’ll do some more research. We just bought the boat three weeks ago. It had trouble idling in neutral and each time it died, I would have to pump the primer bulb 4 or 5 times before it would eventually start. Took it to a mechanic. He adjusted the crabs and installed new spark plugs. We took it out this past weekend. It ran good until we started to put it on the trailer. It died and I had to pump the primer bulb 4or 5 times then it started and I got it on the trailer. I guess I need to replace the primer bulb next.

replace fuel filter and fuel hose---ethanol may have eaten hose up up...maybe your fuel pump too. I have a 2009 90hp Optimax that broke down 4 times in 5 yrs. Ethanol was eating fuel pump and my first fuel hose. Mercury had a fix for it but my local dealer was too stupid to read the bulletins--another story.

Took it back to my selling dealer 5 yrs ago--70 miles one way-and svc mgr said--no prob--we have a bulletin on that....worked fine since then. Ethanol is not our friend in outboards.....

Can't really tell from the pic - But - are the blue and green wires actually blu/wht stripe and green/ wht stripe? If so, is the brown actually brown/wht stripe? On mine (2003 75hp Merc) there is no trim sender, so the trim sender wire (brown/wht stripe) hangs freely NEXT TO the Blue/Wht and Green/Wht.

Or... maybe I'm an idiot.
