Building the Ideal pontoon boat for me

Ok I'd Like to get some ideas here.

I'll tell you what I want to be able to do and need some ideas on the best way to do it.

I'd like to make a pontoon boat that can hold 15-20 people. and some "gear" and possibly with a 2nd deck on the boat and have a slide from the top into the water. I'm thinking of putting in a bar sink or just a small sink.

I would rather build than buy just cause the satisfaction I would get from having a Custom made boat.

What size toons would be good to use. and is what I'm wanting to do even possible.

I'd like to make the boat 26-30 feet.

I plan on putting railings and of course seating. I could use some more ideas on what would make it a good party boat.

I wood recommend that you spend some time looking at many brochures from pontoon manufacturers. Remember the the best features as you design you custom boat. I think you should find stuff that matches your ideas.

that's one heck of a project! It all can definitely be done as some builders make exactly what you want - more or less.

Given that I have a 25' toon and wouldn't dream of ever putting more than 10 on it I would say you'll want at least 30ft. If towing isn't an issue go with a 10' wide boat or wider if possible - that'll make getting around the boat much easier. three logs, min 25 inches in diameter. Weight will be a concern, so the bigger the logs the better.

I'm guessing high speed isn't a desire, so one motor might due, but heck, maybe go for two! probably need a few batteries for power, I would put in a head of some sort, good radio. perhaps try putting a small grill on it, bigger than most of the marine grills you see around. You're on target with a sink.

oh, and be sure to post your plans and pictures of the build!

I will definitely post lots of pictures I figure this project is going to be probably like a year long project at most.

Take a look at the 2005-2010 Party Cruisers or Party Huts, copy that layout and change as needed. They have a wet water slide as an option, and use 26 inch logs.

My PC is 32 x 8 1/2 and It's rated for 15 persons at 150 lbs. each. Most guys are well over that, women no. for 15-20 you're going to have to go bigger. I think Tracker's Mega Hut (out of production in 2009) is rated for 20 persons and is 37 x10 ft. The PC is an excellent party boat, hell that's all we do on it

I'm thinking my Ideal max speed would be 15 mph maybe 20. but leaning more towards 15. might pull a tube but not sure If I go with a single deck definately wana pull a tube but not a huge thing if its a double deck. I'm thinking lots of speakers.
Possibly a Stripper pole. lol

I'm definately gonna put in a porta poty with a holding tank. And thinking of a few batterys and if its a double deck going to have fold out solar panels probably for power and keeping batts charged

Dam how do you get this to the water.

This large tour boat is 62 ft long and 20' wide with 3 x 39" diameter pontoons. It's 3/16" thick pontoon wall gives this boat extra strength and protection.
This tour boat is used on the Ottawa river.

We can supply a fully assembled tour boat or water taxi which would be built to approved engineering drawings.

Heavy duty aluminum railing surrounds the perimeter of the boat and aluminum framed composite seats and aluminum checker plate floor provide a low maintenance boat that can easily be hosed down.

Top speed for my boat is 18 mph with a 135 hp Mercruiser 3.0 for reference.

I think I've changed the thought of the design a lil I would like prolly a 30ft 8.5 ft wide boat. with a second deck thats only 15ft long possibly using 36" pontoons prolly 2 and having 2 motors maybe 150hp each.

Is there any logistical problems with trailering a 10ft wide boat? Is it even allowed? or do you need a permit?

Technically, permits are required and vary by state. From the little bit of research I have done, most states would not require a CDL. Transport may be restricted to daylight hours.

I have been to Fire and Marine (custompontoonboatkitsetc.com) and I recommend them. I have my boat there now for a 3rd toon with transom and built in fuel tank. They have found a nice niche for custom and well built boats. Their pricing seems fair for what you are getting. The have also done some large builds. I spent about 2 hours there talking with them and touring the shop and I like how they work.
