What I did today was raise the ropes on the rear poles of the slip up high, then pulled the boat to the front of the slip and got it centered barely on the lift. Then tied the ropes tight. What happens now is I hook the back ropes to the u-bolts, then pull the boat as far forward as I can, tugging against the two rear ropes...then raise the lift. The ropes helped hold the boat in the center of the slip and I got it on straight the first try. Then the ropes just got slack in them as the lift went the rest of the way up as I had them tied up higher on the posts. It worked as planned on the first attempt, we'll just have to see if it works again next time...when I'm by myself most likely.
Update:

This method has been working like a champ ever since. The boat gets centered on the bunks properly every time, even when I'm putting it up by myself.

You might try the tennis ball deal some people use in their garage. Put a piece of tape on the front rail an something like that on the rear to duplicate positioning.
