2003 Merc 115 Questions

#1 Post by ezcartdude » Thu Jul 01, 2010 7:25 pm

Hello All. I have spent the last 2 months working on the Toon. Ready to refuel launch and enjoy this weekend. My question is what octane fuel should I be running in my four stroke EFI Merc? I am also concerned about ethenol in todays fuel, I bought some of the new starbrite marine fuel treatment for this reason. What are others using? Thanks for the help. :biggrin2

Smart to think of the additive. I didn't an it cost me. Think starbrite an marine stabil are the top two people are using.

Also, install a water separating fuel filter.

Lake,Doc, Badmoon- Thanks for your replies. Really appreciate it. Badmoon- I take it that the factory installed filter under the hood is not enough to do the job properly? Do you recommend installing a external spin on water seperating filter? I take it this is not a problem for the engine to pump through this? Thank you.

No it's not a problem and highly recommended with ethanol fuel. I also use Startron Blue (formulated for ethanol gas).
