I have seen thses a was wondering the same thing, if they would hold up to heavey rains. I did find a cover with groumets every 18 inches for tie downs so it might work ok.

The top on my lift is 3/4" gray conduit PVC (RNC). It is schedule 40 but you can get schedule 80 at an electrical supply. That is thicker wall. Both are V/C protected.
I think if I was doing this in snow country I would use EMT (thin wall metal conduit). If you use a 12:12 pitch (45 degree) you could use factory elbows for the bends.
There may be a supplier of fittings for doing this without using electrical parts. Look at green house web sites.
A "trucker" tarp is what you want for the top. They last 10 years in the Florida sun and they are real tough. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. A real heavy duty silver tarp is next best. Again, price is somewhat of an indicator.
