I have an older Sweetwater 20 footer that I bought with the original 28 SPL engine.Speed was 8 mph with 4 on board. I replaced the 28 with a Mercury brownstripe 75 hp 4 cylinder 2 stroke. I did some reinforcement of the transom at the same time as the original motor rating was 60hp. I have since relocated a 18 gallon aluminum fuel tank under the steering console to get the old school tanks off the back.I skinned the bottom too. I get 23mph with 4 on board now and actually use less fuel with the 75 than the 28!. Not bad for a net cost of $800 ($1500 for the used 75 minus the $700 I got for the 28.

I was only getting 11-12. But, there were 4 of us on board with some other things also like tables, grills, coolers ect.

What I do know about the 90 vs. 115 is that mercury uses the same exact block for both motors. The 115 uses a bit more fuel and you only get 1-2 mph more speed out of the 115 than the 90. I am buying a new motor for my boat at the end of the year, and I would definatley get the 90 over the 115 for the gas and $ difference, and forget about the 2 mph defference. :2cents :givebeer
well i get about 13mph max with a 50 evinruder BUT we carry 60# of ice in the coolers and grill and everything else on the boat to stay out on the water 2-3 days at a time :) oh yea and my fat ass on there too :) 24' sylvan

My first toon was a 24 ft. Playcraft 2-log with an 85 hp Johnson. With only me on the boat, front gate open and perfect enviromental conditons I would get 21 MPH (non-GPS).

With my Suncruiser TR240 (24 ft.) under like condiditons I could get 36 MPH (non-GPS).

I had a little bad luck back on the 4th in '08. Got T-boned by a golf cart! Yep, you read it right, but that's another story. After haggling with Lowe Boats and my Ins. Co. they replaced the two outboard logs with new ones which now includes lifting strakes (already had the bottom skinned) and the factory retro'd strakes on the middle log as well.

I've only had it back about a month, but top end went from 36 MPH to darn near 45 MPH (Non-GPS). I couldn't believe it! The ride is a little bit rougher in mid-day chop but I was really pleased!.
