I'd add the power assist, you'll need it weather you get another new motor or not. As others have mentioned something doesn't seem to be correct in your rigging/propping. Last fall when buying our new boat I drove a couple different Merc 150's and didn't notice any issue.

That said I think the new motors look awesome but you're going to take a beating on a essentially brand new motor when you sell/ trade it in. If that isn't an issue please take pics and report back to us! The new 200 was I believe $17k when I priced it in my build.

I really had to think hard about buying a 2018 with a verado verses that new motor. For my situation the h.p. was the same just a matter of newest vs old version. The standard power assist did help make the decision easier!

When I ordered power assisted steering on my 150 Verado in 2014, there was a price/model difference between the 150 and the 200. Just an FYI.

I have the 22 lp3 party barge with 4 stroke 150hp mercury O/B, it has hydraulic steering which i'm not impressed with. would like to upgrade to power steering. looking at the new 4 stroke 200hp v-6 mercury O/B which can come with power steering. its not a verado but a new motor for this year. anyone have experience with this motor ?
I did not know mercury had power steering for the new v6. I thought it used aftermarket like uflex and seastar. My plan is to use the uflex protech 1 hydraulic that I used for my f115. I won't be using power assist.
Go for it if you can afford it. What is your current top speed.
