Incase you're like me, and can't see youtube @ work, here is a Kansas boy's definition of powerloading.

Powerloading is when you use the engine power of the boat to help the boat get completely on the trailer. This is commonly used when boaters don't back the trailer in completely, and therefore the boat can't simply float onto the trailer, it has to be powerloaded, or cabled winched up to seat on the trailer completely. A lot of people do this for 2 reasons.

#1, We ( yes myself included ) are too lazy to hook the strap onto the boat while it still needs to go 2 feet to be on the trailer completely, and winch the boat up.

#2, If you only back the trailer in 75% of the way, it is much easier to ensure that your boat will sit on the trailer correctly because most trailers will guide the boat on the correct way, this can't be done very easilly with the trailer completely in the water, and the boat floating. This also helps if there is a cross wind, and you want to make sure you have the boat on the trailer correctly the first time, and don't want to "dip" the boat back in to get it situated correctly.

That's when you use your motor thrust to push you all the way up on your trailer. It's not a problem if your on a concrete ramp.

unless there's a reg against it. then it could be a problem, depending on how much extra $$$$$$$ you've got laying around. i think some states are leaving the regulations to local communities and lake patrols. the fines i've read are around $50 to $100 for the first offense, then more after that.

if the ramps are nice and long (long enough for everyone's trailer), then i don't hink power loading does much harm. if the ramps aren't long enough, then power loading makes a real mess. way too much money is being spent maintaining these ramps because people are too frickin lazy to hook up their boats.
