A 9.9 (or even a 7.5) hp will push a pontoon up to hull speed without much trouble. It is when you are trying to get up on the bow wave that you need power.

I'm on a 10hp lake. It's divided into 3 basins and only 1300 acres total. Don't have to deal with rough water. That's my green top at the bottom of the pic.

I occasionally fish on a 10hp lake in SW Ohio, Cowan Lake.....don't have the smaller motor, but I can troll around pretty easily and it gets me to the fishin' holes

If you need more speed, you can use a 15 hp--but you should switch to 9.9 hp decals. They're the same base motor.

well i bought the motor used lol and i was told it had ben bumped to to 15, but i havnt looked all that close at the carb, it pushes the boat along nicly as is 10.2 on gps and i sure dont mind the one to two galllons of gas fill ups, but i am looking into a prop change cause its only pulling 2600 rpm with a 7 pitch found a 5 1/2 on ebay will try it on the next trip out just cause, but you know lol its a 10 hp lake its way more about kicking back and enjoying the ride and so far the people there have ben first class boaters, in fact i have rented a slip for the rest of the season, and am planning on keeping it there next year too the fishing is good on 3 trips out got a total of 25 lbs of nice cats and thats a nice looking spot and boat , i am not to far away im at beach fork lake outside of huntington wv
