Anybody Here tried TAP Fins?

This looks like possibly a better, and cheaper solution than Lifting Strakes. Maybe?

Bob,
While Tap Finns have never lived up to the hype of their inventor, Malcolm Shomn, they may be cheaper than Lifting Stakes. There are many reasons to NOT install Tap Finns the bigesst of which is Malcolm and his overhyping sales tactics. PBD Rag did a comparison, finally, http://www.pontoon.net/boat-news/displa ... tartRow=21 that showed maybe a 5% increase in speed with a two toon 24ft with a 115. that is 1.5 mph better with TF? TF's is a sponser of PDB Magazine btw so you may want to take that into consideration. Also you need to check your warrenty to see if welding anything to your toons will void it.

OIC!!! So it's marketing hype perpetuated by the theoretically unbiased magazine (which gets advertising money from the hypster), made to look like "scientific" research.

On the other hand, I don't have lifting strakes, so I'm basically running three 24' displacement hulls through the water by brute force, as I don't have a "plane" to "get up on"...

It's interesting that they say you can put those things on your toons with JB Weld. That would be a lot of freaking epoxy!

Irregardless of the "inventor" of TAP fins, the fact that they will almost certainly void your warranty is a no go for me.

All I know is FusionKing a long time member and great welder got a set and was finely going to get us before and after numbers, then he was never heard from again, the numbers must not have went their way and they took him out.
