new Mercury motor and more problems.

Well I know some of you have been following my adventures with props and my first 150hp 4 stroke Merc blowing up.
We flew our grandson in yesterday for a week to get some boating in. We went out today had a good time and on the way in the motor wouldn't get over 4,400 rpm's and slowly dropped off from there.
I stopped the eng to check the prop and it took almost everything I had to shift the damn thing into Neutral.

We made it to the marina and I will be taking it into the dealer this week, to say I'm pissed is an understatement. The motor only has 27 hours on it. I sent Mercury a very nasty letter telling them if I have any more problems I will contact my Lawyer and sue them to get my money back and buy a Yamaha.

I am sorry that I bought into their hype on how good this motor is supposed to be,because as far as I'm concerned it's a piece of shit.

I feel for ya, Gramps! I guess every brand has "those motors". My 'Zuk was a nightmare in the beginning too.

Must just keep getting Friday afternoon built engines, :drink As much as I dislike Mercury engines, they seem to be on the ball the past few years and I've heard nothing but praise on the new 150's from other people. I'm almost wondering if its a dealer setup issue and they don't have the controls setup properly, especially with all your different props running identical.

That's terrible brother. I truly hope Mercury takes care of you but I'm afraid that your threat of law suite will fall of deaf ears at Mercury. Your just one little customer to them. Now, if you could find a group of you new 150 owners who have been having problems then they might listen. On the up side, I'm sure Yamaha will be happy to take your money and give you a good quality motor to boot. Again, sorry for your disappointment, lets hope your dealer can hook you up.

WOW!

Best of luck to you. I've never had any problems with any of the Merc outboards or stern drives I've owned. Is it a new motor?? What is the lemon law in your state. In Arizona, '3rd time is the charm'. If they haven't fixed it RIGHT, they buy it back.

Good luck to you Gramps, nothing is worse than trying to enjoy a new toy and it keeps screwing up.

Why a nasty letter and threats of lawyers?

Did they tell you to kiss off?
Deny a warranty claim?
Charge you for a new engine?

Stuff happens. That's what warranties are for. I went through a couple of blown up engines on our work boats. And by "blown up" I mean things that should be on the inside of the engine ending up on the outside. Mercury sent new power heads every time. Even once when the engine was a couple months "out" of warranty. Dealing with Mercury warranty people has always been smooth for me.

Granted, stuff like that never happens at an "opportune" time and may screw up plans, but to threaten them right off the bat won't accomplish anything positive.

Gramps: I too feel for you with all the frustrations. Take two steps back and punt.

Unfortunately, Georgia Lemon Laws apply only to self-propelled vehicles, designed primarily for the transportation of people or property over public highways.

I'm sure that it'll all workout--and that the problem WILL be solved. Mercury is a legitimate company that wants happy customers.

Sorry for all the problems. I know it can be aggravating , especially when you think you are purchasing the latest and greatest. I to wonder if this might be dealer error. On my 3rd merc and zero problems but can understand your anger. Hopefully this will get straightened out. Was considering the new 4 stroke on my next one but may need to stay with the opti till you discover what caused the last problem. Wishing you the best

Wow, sorry to hear the bad news, Gramps. Any speculation to what happened? Powerhead or lower unit failure? I'm sure the dealer will do their best to get ya taken care of, Alot of heavy weights in the pontoon business look at this forum and they have motor connections! Mercury is a good company, they build great motors. An expirience like yours leaves a bad taste in your mouth for now, but when its fixed or replaced, you'll be fine. At least we are getting down to the propping problem, I'm sure whatever broke, was probably haunting your propping, too!
Let us know what ya find out!

Hang in their gramps.... I'm sure it will all get worked out.. I know it must be frustrating as hell with what all you've already gone thru with that Merc.... but I kinda feel like some of the other here on the board... think it could be a dealer set up issue.... You gotta know that Mercury will be on the horn to your dealership to get this matter resolved.... Like I said, hang in there and give Mercury a chance to at least look into it.... Good luck!

Perhaps you haven't seen the thread about his first motor issue.

Ask the dealer to come to your marina to fix the motor, expain to him that you flew in your grandson to do some boating. A stand up dealer will get someone down there to fix it right away.

Boatcop, You don't have the foggiest clue of what I have gone through with this Motor ( motors ) We flew our grandson in for a week to boat with us and his Mother is coming in Thurs for the same and guess what no boat.
I have changed props 3 times with no change in results, I now think it's because something was always wrong with this motor, I'm supposed to be enjoying my summer, not happening.
If you want to be SNARKY, I suggest you join the other boating web site, they are looking for people like you.
