Mercury/Mariner fuel connectors question

I got this crazy idea to mix up 1 gallon of 50:1 + Sea Foam to run through ALL my 2-stroke motors before running them dry for winter storage (Mariner 40, couple 5-7hp portables, 3 chainsaws, 2 string trimmers, 1 Lawnboy mower...you get the idea). To pull this off on the Mariner I wanted to make a fuel line with engine connector, bulb and the free end I would just drop in the 1Gal tank. The boat section at the local sporting goods store had a Merc/Mariner connector & the bulb so I thought I was good to go. Well it was different than the engine connector so it wouldn't push on, but looks like it would fit the tank. The tank connector has the check ball about 3/8 deep in the housing, the engine connector has it flush at the end. Cutting it off with a hacksaw doesn't work--it leaks--so I wasted 9 bucks :-/

Do all Merc/Mariner fuel hose assemblies use different quick-connect fittings at each end? Since that was the only "Mariner" fitting they sold I'm not sure what to ask for next time. There are no marinas around so I'll likely have to order the part.

I think the quick connect comes in two sizes. Although that may just apply to the fuel line size.

Yes there were 2 choices of "Mercury/Mariner" connectors--5/16 and 3/8 but they were the same otherwise.

Must be a stupid question (see signature) and everyone is just being nice by not flaming me :)
I ordered a replacement off eBay that looks just like the one I have.

I didn't know about the new sealed tanks & the problems caused by them until looking for this little connector. Just another reason to keep/maintain the simple old stuff & avoid all this new "green" junk that doesn't work

There are two different size Merc. fuel hoses (aux to engine fuel lines which fit my 115 Merc engine & they both look neary the same). They will both attach & run. However, one is smaller & won't allow my engine to develop full power. Needless to say, I bought another hose in the right size.

I cut the engine side fitting off (but can reinstall it quickly using a small hose clamp). What I mostly use the hose for is taking fuel out of my 2 spare aux tanks & putting the gas into the main tank. Saves me a bundle since I can refuel my aux tanks before I get to the marina. I save about $.50/gal minimum.
