Ordered My new Toon

FIRST---thanx for all the valuable input---to make the transition from bass boats or jon boats to a pontoon was made a lot easier as I had no expertise in this area.


So here's what I got.

2009 Beachcomber 18 ft Cruise 'n Fish--2 fishin seats up front and lounge seating and changing room in back..

90 hp 2-stroke Yamaha--little lighter that the 4 stroke(150 lbs) and I guess I'm too old to change.

Motor Guide W55 wireless trolling motor---mainly it has less cables and the front deck is cleaner plus can be removed easily leaving only mounting bracket. Didnt go with the 70 lb as it is 24 volt. Hope that wasnt a mistake.

Factory underskinning

Humminbird 383C color fishfinder/GPS combo

Stainless Steel Prop

Dual axle galvanized trailer.

Will pull mainly behind 30 ft Class A Sea Breeze motor home(2002)

That's about it---expected delivery first week in March--I'm very excited and thanx again for all the help...

Price----22, 300 approx...Could have saved a few bucks by shopping but I trust the dealer and know he'll take care of me after the sale...Bought my last bass boat from him--he's been in biz over 30 years.

Congrats on the toon..........it will definitly be a different ride than your prior boats, but I am sure you will be happy with what you bought. It's always good to buy something local and them know you and your boat, as long as they are honest they always seem to help in odd times! Good luck with boat!

Thing about the TM is that a toon in the wind will blow around, we have a lot of surface area, so the bigger TM will be able to hold you in place in a wind and you can still move around without having to pull up an anchor every time you want to move.

Plus the good thing about having a 70 pounder with 2 batteries is that it will get you back to the dock if the something happened like a bad load of fuel, may never need it but it nice to have.

A few of the places I go have critters you don't want to be swimming with so I went with a older 36v model at the I was buying 10 years back, that's before all the remote ones came out with the same power at 24v.

(everyone): "Cheers" (or other toast)
(MC): "A Toast to the (1st mate or designated topless woman) " . Usually, the larger breasted of the bunch.
(everyone): "Cheers!" (or other toast)
(MC): "A Toast to (name of the boat)"

(Captain): "A toast to everyone present! Thank you for coming today and in joining us in this very specially occasion!" Fairwinds to all!
(everyone): "Cheers!" (or other toast).

(Captain then takes his boat for a cruise for the first time, it is usually best that the Captain takes her out single handed, or with the topless women).

yep----I am real close to changing to the 24 volt for the reason of the wind effects. prob not much more $$$$$$$$

Congrats on the new boat. The 90 should push it well. Had a 90 on my old 24ft and it did very well. I like the 2 strokes also. They are ready to go year round.
Hopefully the 12 volt motor will have enough thrust for you since it probably isn't all that heavy. Good Luck with it..........

That's what I was thinking since your not out the door you can make changes cheaper now than a week down the road, unless you have a real nice dealer.

And having 2 deep draws gives you back up if the main needs a jump, plus you have extra battery power for toys, even run an inverter for 110 power when needed.

Plus the fact 2 batteries will have a longer run time.

Oh great toon by the way , sorry I get focused on one thing sometime and forget my manors, and I like that you went 2- stroke too, so less maintenance and weight.

Uh HUH----like the idea-----only see 2 possible snags--one-----guaranteed divorce. and two---unfortunately most of the girls I know at my age-----well let's just say we probably dont wanta see them topless

Thanx Lakerunner--but I'll just wait and be surprised... With the state of the boat biz these days I just hope it gets built. I know you know they are a small company. They used to build exclusively for Travis Boats I understand and started marketing their own stuff when Travis went away.

My dealer said they are building logs for other manufacturers also and are able to pay the bills till the spring boat season starts.

As to the MG 55#. This is what I have. I had this on my 22' and now on the 25'. I have only used it three times on the 25' as I got the new boat in Sept. but it moved my boat quite well even in 10-15 mph wind. I do not think you will be disappointed in the performance. Good tooning!!

Thanx for that----can you be away from the boat and use the remote to park it a little away from the bank---say when you launch and need to park the trailer , etc. That might be cool and would free up the ramp area. Wonder what the range of the remote is.

Re: the thrust---appreciate the input. I'm weighing the xtra cost(a minor consideration) of the 75# plus the xtra battery and the xtra weight of another battery and a larger motor vs the 20# increase in thrust.

One important question---48 or 54 inch shaft?

I have the 54" shaft and, for my boat with 27" toons and heavy motor, I need a longer shaft as I now have to open the front gate to get the motor to the water. I cannot answer the remote question as I do not have the remote.
