Performance Thread Anyone?

#1 Post by rbiederwolf » Mon Jan 14, 2013 1:05 pm

Was thinking it would be cool to have one thread that forum members could simply state their best performance results. I think it would help to give a general summary of what one might expect when either buying a new/used boat or changing engine (like I just did) Looking for REAL numbers - no exagerating :nono
1. Boat type/ length - model etc be specific
2. Engine - model year etc
3. Prop Type
4. Pontoon Performance Enhancers - Strakes, elliptical etc
5. Performance -
6. Brief description of conditions , i.e. - flat calm, one adult, full gas etc, anything that might affect the numbers

I will start:
1. Tritoon Avalon Paradise Elite - 22ft cruise model -
2. 2008 150hp Yamaha 4 stroke
3. Aluminum Yamaha 15.25x15P
4. Lifting strakes inside and out of all tubes
5. 5700 rpm (WOT) 37.6 mph -
6. Flat calm, slack tide, no wind, 1/2 tank gas, one adult (me)
If you ain't got the the blues, you got a hole in your soul...

2008 Yamaha 150hp

Good idea, but to maintain my dignity I will have to opt out.

I think its a great idea__
I'll get naked so to speak---

1. Boat type/ length - model etc be specific-
2009 Sun Tracker 21 ft Fishing barge two log
2. Engine - model year etc-
2008 Mercury 50
3. Prop Type
(coming soon)
4. Pontoon Performance Enhancers - Strakes, elliptical etc
None
5. Performance -
WOT 17 MPH by GPS
6. Brief description of conditions , i.e. - flat calm, one adult, full gas etc, anything that might affect the numbers-
Really nothing to add here-

*What I have I realize is not for everybody, My hat don't blow off at WOT---
But the thing starts every time (knock on wood) and gets me to the catfish and is perfect for slowing down and enjoying the lake with the wife and Grand-kids.
I have owned three boats before this toon and I enjoy this thing so Damn much!
With the Merc 50 on it I'm not having to fill up often and that makes a difference to me also.
AND--Toon people are COOL!
I often wonder if Jimmy really did crack corn, and why should I care?

3 log strakes on both sides of center and on inside of outers
Prop, hell I don't know. It's shines and turns.
Exactly 40mph. Gps. I think at 6400 wot. With half a tank of gas (25gallons) and wife and me ob with "some" gear.
Not glassy smooth water. Slightly choppy and some wind. I hit 38 all the time but 40 was my best.

Average top speed with 6 to 8 people 36.5 to 37 MPH
Comfortable cruising speed 22 to 32MPH
Side note: Most comfortable cruising speed is about 26 to 30 MPH rides smooth and gets good mileage. I love my boat and so does everyone that takes a ride on it. We can tube, pull wake boards and water ski with a full boat. No problem at all.

2012 Bennington 24SSLX
24 ft Express package w/strakes on center toon
Extended rear deck w/almost every option available.
2012 Yamaha F150 fourstroke with 20 hours
Yamaha Reliance 14.5x15 stainless steel prop

Performance: 40 MPH @ 6000 rpms lightly loaded 3/4 tank rough water on large lake.
Comfortable cruising speed 22 to 32MPH.
At 30 mph, the wind gets under the hull, lifts it out of the water--and feels a little like a tunnel hull boat.
