Trolling Motor Base Cover....Ideas?

#1 Post by Mosnowman » Wed May 15, 2013 4:27 pm

So I installed my Pontoon Minn Kota Trolling Motor today. It has quick release function so I have a base plate that is 8" by 10". The plate is metal and has raised edges about 1" which may catch a few kid's toes if not covered when they jump off the bow. I was trying to figure out something to use/make as a cover? Preferably something soft...foam...rubber etc. Thoughts?

I literally finished installing my terrova 80 lb thrust motor with co-pilot, also... (iPilot maybe next year)

I too used a quick release bracket.....

BUT... I had a friend make me a 'receiver hitch' do-hicky thing, and mounted it UNDER the front of the boat. Then the 'boat portion' of the quick release is bolted to another do-hicky thingamabob that slides into the receiver hitch. A locking hitch pin is used to secure the motor from theft.

The object was to keep the 1" high "TOE-CATCHER" OFF my front deck... and to keep from drilling holes into the deck/plywood.

I also converted a seat base into a live well, with intermittent timer.... another posting later...

I would be curious to see pics! .....I found a Motor Guide mounting plate cover at Overtons but their mounting plate is completely different than Minn Kota's. I imagine I will have to make something?

I like that. Maybe I'll remember that when and if I install a TM someday. :thumbsup
