If faced with cutting square-cornered holes--like installing Carling switches in dash--those new-ish oscillating multi-tools do work amazingly well. I bought the $30 Harbor Freight version and it is fantastic on plunge cuts and pretty easy to stay on a line since the cutting action is straight and not rotary.
