New floor covering

#1 Post by midnight1957 » Wed Jan 29, 2014 2:48 pm

Hi, I am buying a used pontoon that needs the carpet replaced. Since I have to do this I would like to put down some kind of different flooring. I have heard that there is a new type floor covering that is water prof and will not burn your feet in the summer time.
Does anyone know where to buy this floor covering and is it hard to put down and what are the pros and cons of it?

Thanks,
Wade

I believe you might be thinking of a product that has come to OEMs in the last year or so called Sea Grass. IF you could even find an aftermarket supplier for it, cost is astronomical. Think +/- two grand to cover a midsized toon :scared

Syntec Industries is a large supplier of a lot of those "woven" or "sea grass" type flooring materials, also known or manufactured as Chilewich. You can check out more info on it here: http://www.syntecind.com/marine/other-f ... /chilewich

I haven't heard of anyone that is selling it on the aftermarket though. RVBoatParts.com's owner can get it I believe, but I would assume he'd have to bring in a full roll 100+ ft. which can get pricy if he only has one person interested.

Too bad they don't carry it in 96" widths. Would love to upgrade to that in a few years but it wouldn't look quite right with a seam every six feet.

I've been pleasantly surprised how cool the light vinyl stays, even up here it's been between 85 and 95 for 6 weeks. I was going to buy wooven, at the time it was same price as faux teak, but I liked the teak better.

This store on ebay has it in 8.5 width. You have to contact them for different lengths. I don't know anything about him. I have just been looking for when I redo mine.
