Why the name of your toon?

#1 Post by EGlideRider » Tue Mar 17, 2009 3:18 pm

This post is related to a previous post.

Just curious why you named your toon the name you did.

Beginning in the early 80's, my first two pontoons were named Island Escape and Island EscapeII.

The reason was that during our work days, the wife and I could 'escape' to our little 'island' on the weekends.

My previous toon was named Lake Escape because when we retired to Florida, we could 'escape' to the many lakes making up the Harris Chain of Lakes here in Central Florida.

We named our present boat 'Sassie Vassie' because my wife's name is Vassie and she is a very sassy lady. I always wanted to name my previous boats this but was always over-ruled by my wife. At our ages, I think my wife allowed me to name this boat after her to make sure no other woman will ride on it if she should pass before me. LOL.

Because I like to get a day on the lake “REEL TIME” My wife thinks I really like to fish but the reality is that I like the process of fishing and if I catch something that is a bonus. :)

My wife got sick the day we went to check out the toon pre-buy. I called her and told her it looked really good but had some carb issues that I could fix and I thought we should get it. She replied with it better not be a Floating Piece of Shit. aka

Looks like she enjoys it to me. :ten

Knot-a-Yacht!

1. I just love playing with language.
2. It was our first boat...an '89 used pontoon, but in good shape, but it certainly doesn't reek of anything close to "yacht" status.
3. Perhaps its a bit of a "tongue in cheek" jab at any stuck-up yuppies or wealthy snobs that pass by. And I don't mean to insult the really nice "wealthy" people that I've met that treat all individuals with respect and common courtesy.
4. It's our knot-a-yacht that we keep at our modest (i.e. low cost, comparatively) cottage referred to us as "da Kottage!".

AND............what else was I going to come up with after a few beers??????????

The toon is named after my wife because she didn't want it named after her, so that decided the issue for me right away :!:

Our other boat is more aptly named with a play on words or double meaning like most good boat names. So the SeaRay is named Muddy Waters.

When my father died in february 2007, my mom made my long time dream come true by buying me a bass boat with some of his life insutance money. Well we rented a toon a few times and fell in love with them. In august 2008 I traded my bass boat for our toon and my moms name is Joy Lou. Her email address is JoyLieu, meaning joy in leiu of ??? anything bad. So since she was the reason we now have our boat, I honored her in naming it JoyLieu. She almost cried when I designed a logo for it. Cant help it,,,,,,,Im a mama's boy.

HellrHighwater because it's a play on our last name, and what we went through in our search for that perfect boat.
We found a local guy who had an Adventurecraft, nice guy who gave up some free time to let me captain his boat, and when we decided to not buy that make, was gracious anyway. We are still friends.

Then we looked at Catamaran Cruisers, no local dealers so we had to drive to southern NJ to look at one, liked it but then saw the Party Cruiser online.

All of our local dealers didn't stock the PC and all said 5-6 month wait after ordering. I called Bass Pro Shops in Pa. and Md. Only the BP in Baltimore had one in stock. We called ahead, drive down and they still had it blocked in by a ton of boats and still in the factory shrink wrap. Cheryl and I had to crawl inside of it using a step ladder. After realizing we were serious and had the funds, they told us to come back down and look at it again uncovered...so that was another 2 1/2 drive round trip to Balt....and I really dislike Baltimore. :tofunny

BMR, what did you think of the Adventurecraft? I have looked at those online and was just wondering what you thought.

Liked it, but the walkway down the center of the boat is very narrow. The guy who owned it said he had leaks (cabin windows, seals) when it rained. The boat handled like a dream, if you banked hard it wouldn't list even a little with 2 of us at the upper deck helm. Just like a 'toon, it doesn't like to take waves from the sides, but handles rough water as long as the bow is headed into the waves. Loved the Yamaha 150 he had on it, couldn't hear it running. It's about 8,000 lbs, 2500 heavier than the Party Cruiser.

Another bad thing I heard is that they keep moving their plant, don't know if they are in financial trouble or not.

If not for the Party Cruiser I would have went with the Catamaran Cruiser over the AC.

Would it help any if i told you beer was involved? :nana

I have been into brewing beer for about 17 years now.
All from scratch, just like a brewery.
Infact, i have a fricken beer brewery in my house.... heh

A buddy and i welded the thing together while sucking down some brews and jokingly named it "The Lama Brewery"
Why? Once again....beer was involved! :)

The name stuck and it now has its own website!
http://www.LamaBrewery.com

Years later, a pontoon joined the family.
We thought and thought about a name, and a friend said call it the Lama!
More beer became involved and we all settled on:

Lethargic Lama!

Long live the Lama! Haha! :tofunny
